HelioKeramos presents a groundbreaking proposal to develop a new type of multifunctional tile for industrial production. These tiles integrate an organic solar cell (OSC) photovoltaic system for efficient electricity generation. By redesigning traditional ceramic tiles, we have successfully accommodated the OSC while modifying the tile’s microstructure to reduce thermal conductivity without compromising its mechanical properties.

Our innovative design maximizes the surface area for the OSC, which will be coated with an alkali-borosilicate glaze. This glaze serves as the base for the OSC, which utilizes transparent conductive oxides as electrodes and organic semiconductors as active materials. The successful implementation of HelioKeramos will result in solar tiles that seamlessly replace conventional tiles, maintaining the aesthetic integrity of existing buildings. This makes them ideal for traditional villages and towns throughout the Mediterranean region.
