Jewish Museum Thessaloniki,Ext
Τhe extension of the Jewish Museum of Thessaloniki is both a functional upgrade and a gesture of remembrance. The design draws from the city’s rich Jewish history, using materials and textures to echo memory and resilience. A key feature is the metal-clad staircase, wrapped in a geometric perforated pattern. This sculptural element unifies the stairwell while subtly referencing continuity and loss.Natural stone, warm wood, and dark metal form a tactile palette that reflects the historic fabric of Thessaloniki, while integrated lighting and digital displays introduce a contemporary layer. The new spaces include expanded exhibition areas, seminar rooms, and a retail zone, supporting the museum’s evolving role. The concept focuses on material honesty and sensory experience, allowing architecture to become a silent narrator of history. Through texture and form, the design aims to create a space for reflection, dialogue, and cultural continuity.
